About X-ray Reference
X-ray Reference is an educational X-ray site for people who are trying to make sense of an image, a report phrase, or a common finding without wading through either dense radiology textbooks or low-quality health content. The goal is not to replace a clinician. The goal is to make the learning step clearer.
Why we built Xrayreference.com
There is a real gap between how radiology is written and how most people search. A patient may be told “mild cardiomegaly,” “small pleural effusion,” or “right basilar opacity” and have no idea where to start. X-ray Reference was built to bridge that gap with plain-language guides, visual reference material, and a structured upload flow that points users toward the right educational context.
What is on the site
The site has three main parts: upload-based educational walkthroughs, finding pages that explain common X-ray terms and patterns, and a reference library built around public example material. These parts are meant to work together. A user can upload first, read a finding guide second, and then compare with reference examples if they want more context.
Reference material and examples
X-ray Reference uses NIH-derived reference material as part of its public educational library. The examples are there to help users study broad patterns and terminology, not to imply that any one image or page can diagnose an individual case. The reference set is useful, but it is not exhaustive and it is not a substitute for formal clinical interpretation.
What the site is not
X-ray Reference is not a hospital, radiology practice, clinician portal, emergency service, or HIPAA workflow. It does not provide diagnosis, treatment plans, prescriptions, or urgent care advice. If you have symptoms, a worrying report, or a potentially urgent imaging result, use a qualified clinician or radiologist.
Using the site responsibly
If you upload an image, remove names and other identifying information first. Use the site to understand terms, visible patterns, and common educational comparisons. Do not use it as the sole basis for a medical decision.
